Just when I thought we were making progress with completing our main living space, Christmas finished, the decorations came down and the house looked bare again. Not only that, but without the fairy lights to brighten the duller days, our big open plan room looks.. well, a little gloomy. With all the bigger jobs done and a relatively bare canvas of a colour scheme, it really is a case of getting on with accessorising and using those to help lift and brighten our living space, whilst bringing in elements of our personalities. Whilst I know that our house decor will constantly be evolving (and my inability to fully finish a job without distraction!), here are a few of the little touches I’ll be adding this Spring.
Flowers & Vases
There’s nothing I love more in a space than flowers. I’m a firm believer that fresh flowers in a home instantly lift the spirits. Whilst I have a (worryingly) large collection of vases already, I’d love to help bring the hints of blush we’ve brought into our hallway through into the main kitchen/dining space. This concrete and blush vase from Cox & Cox would perfectly match in with the greys of our kitchen whilst bringing a hint of colour through and whilst I love it styled with a few sprigs of lavender like it is here, I’m thinking a bit of fresh gypsophila would be perfect for summer!

Faux Foliage
Whilst flowers are my thing, I’ve recently gotten in to faux foliage as a way to add life to a room without the expense of freshness or the worry of trying to keep it alive. We have a slightly darker corner which has sat empty for a while whilst we decide what to do and I think I’ve found my answer with a large faux plant. This faux Monstera truly is a little bit of a monster in our white room but the dark green will certainly add contrast. That said, I’ll be lifting it with a change of pot, something like this raise planter, just to ensure it doesn’t get lost.

Our Home – Soft Furnishings
We’re fortunate that with our new extension, there’s plenty of space in our living area for a small sofa which we bought before Christmas. It’s a dark grey, modern design which is far more of a style over squishiness model! So far we’ve just got two small pillows on it but I am determine to soften and brighten it’s dark colour as we go into Spring and make it into somewhere that I enjoy lazing on. I’m loving these dove grey cushions, alongside a soft blush blanket for snuggling against with a cup of tea whilst looking out of the bi-fold doors at all of the jobs we still have to do in the garden!
Our Home – Quirky Touches
With the main bits in place, our final focus is on the quirkier little touches for the kitchen space. We still need to get the tiling done which will then allow us to start putting some bits and pieces on the worktops… even if they’re more for decorative effect than day to day use. One of the things we were really keen on is designing a space for entertaining, even if it’s rare we entertain more than grandparents these days. Anyway, as part of that entertaining dream (and for pure visual effect), these marble and wood serving boards would be a perfect addition with our white marble worktops.
Oh and then we’d OBVIOUSLY need this ceramic hen… an ode to the countryside that we live in and probably the closest I’m going to get to owning fowl. I may even have to get a couple and start my own little windowsill flock!
